A five day trip to Des and Jenny's home
in Marloth Park
including a visit to the Kruger National Park

Another highlight of
our visit to South Africa was a four night trip to Des and
Jenny's second home in Marloth Park, which is located in
a sub-tropical climate zone and is about a five hour drive
east of Benoni. |
|
|
| |
|
| |
| Light
yet persistent rain was a feature of the journey... |
|
|
| |
...but by the time we
arrived at the entrance to Marloth Park, the rain had stopped
and didn't return for the duration of our stay. |
|
|

The house. Bruce had
been lucky enough to visit it before, but it was Geoff's
first visit. |

Geoff was amazed by how
close all the animals were. Some of them would even come
into the garden. |

Des took us for a walk
away from the house, to a point where we could look over
the Crocodile River and into the Kruger National Park. |

Geoff worked hard to
prepare a meal for all of us this evening. |

Geoff was surprised to
find this little frog sharing his shower in the morning.
We identified it later. |

Today, Jackie offered
to stay at the house with Mom, while Des drove us into the
Kruger National Park. |
|
|
| |
The entrance to the
park at its Crocodile Bridge gate, where we had to pay an
entrance fee and get checked over by the security team...
just in case we were poachers! |

An encounter with wild
dogs isn't that common, according to Des, so we felt lucky. |

We were the only people
at the Ntandanyathi Hide. Des went in ahead of us to make
sure that there were no snakes lurking in it! |

After driving for a couple
of hours, we arrived at the Lower Sabie rest camp. |
|
|
|
| |
|
| |
|
| |
We had a lovely cup
of coffee, served with the most delicious blueberry muffins
at the Mugg & Bean restaurant overlooking the river.
Afterwards our table attendant took this photo of us. |

After a very successful
day of sightseeing, Geoff was keen to taste the local Castle
Lager. |
|
|
| |
Mom had been having a
relaxing day, but was happy to see us again. |
|
|
| |
A bush baby arrived fleetingly
for a treat of bananas, but that was it for today! |

On our last evening in
the bush, we went out for a meal to Jabula Lodge. |
|
|
| |
Afterwards Mom, Jackie
and Des posed for some fun photos with the stuffed animals! |
