Day 16: We fly home
A full day of travelling.
After a pre-dawn start and two flights, we arrive
home in the evening.
| |
We awoke with a jolt
at 5:00am, quickly realising that our holiday was over and
that we had to be ready to disembark the ship at 5:45 for
the last time. |
| |
Despite being so early
in the morning, the road to the airport was busy. The traffic
flowed reasonably well, however and we were treated to some
lovely views of the city as the sun rose, especially looking
over Mahim
Bay, as we drove across the Bandra–Worli
Sea Link. |

Departure formalities
were much easier than the various arrivals formalities had
been and we were soon sitting in the Emirates lounge. |
| |
The lounge was very comfortable
and we had excellent views of the planes! |

Once on board the Boeing
777 for the first leg of our journey, Geoff claimed the
window seat for a change... Bruce usually gets there first! |

The lounge at Dubai Airport
is vast! |
| |
| |
We were impressed to
have a direct link from the lounge to the upper deck of
the Airbus A380. |
| |
| |
| |
Lunch on board was excellent. |
| |
| |
| |
Geoff loved his Negroni
cocktail before lunch. |
| |
And that was pretty
much that! We had a very pleasant flight to London and landed
after dark. We were very impressed by the excellent organisation
by the ground-based Emirates team in allocating a car for
us, thus making the arrivals process and the getting home
process seem completely seamless.
As for our experience of India, Sri-Lanka, the ship we sailed
on and all of the people who made it possible, we shall
never forget anything. It was a most enjoyable holiday. |
