After visiting northern India in 2009 (which we loved), we decided that we would one day like to return and see a little of the southern part of the country, especially Kerala.

Remembering that our earlier land-based trip had been quite tiring and that we had both had unfortunate bouts of food poisoning, we were delighted when we saw this trip advertised. Relaxing on a ship and visiting areas we hadn't visited before seemed ideal and being able to pick and choose what we ate whilst ashore was an added benefit.

Visiting Sri Lanka proved to be an unexpected delight. In contrast to the hustle and bustle of India, it felt much more relaxed, with less traffic, beautiful landscapes, interesting sights and charming people.

Unlike some of our other recent trips, we did pretty much stick to the published itinerary, except that we couldn't visit the port of Trivandrum, because it is not a designated port of entry into India and we would have been arriving from Sri Lanka. We therefore sailed non-stop from Colombo to Cochin.
Our (very familiar) ship, the Hebridean Sky, in the port of Trincomalee, Sri Lanka.

Taken during the last full day of the holiday, at a lookout point in the city of Mumbai.
