Having failed to find
somewhere for a light lunch in Barletta and feeling a
little hungry, we walked straight from Trani station to
Bianco Yogurt Café, knowing we would find exactly
what we fancied there.
| |
We each chose a couple
of small snacks and sat at the same table we had yesterday. |
| |
Afterwards, and on the
theme of repetition, we returned to Babayage Gelataria! |
| |
The owner was just taking
out a fresh batch of salted caramel flavoured gelato. Of
course, we both wanted it! |
| |
After a rest at our hotel,
we set off around the harbour towards the restaurant which
Geoff had booked. |
| |
| |
It was a lovely warm
evening, so when we were offered a table outside at Manima
Osteria, we accepted it. |
| |
We drank a toast to Bruce's
great-nephew, Slater, who turned 18 today! |
| |
Geoff's starter was mussels
au gratin, topped with parsley-flavoured breadcrumbs. |
For his main course, Geoff
chose fried squid and prawns. |
| |
Bruce had a starter
of Baccalà (cod) with crushed taralli (a local snack),
served with caponata (a vibrant Mediterranean vegetable
accompaniment) and a broad bean sauce. Absolutely delicious!
| |
Bruce's main course
was "Musciscka" – grilled beef strips from
the local Podolica cattle breed, lightly flavoured with
chili pepper, fennel seeds, garlic, salt and pepper, served
with green vegetables. He was really pleased that he ordered
it, because the English translation on the menu read "Grilled
Podolica Cow Straps", which didn't sound too appealing. |
We both chose "Passionata"
for dessert which is made by a pastry shop called Pasticceria
Casoli. It is made with ricotta, set on a sponge base and
covered with a layer of marzipan, infused with Moscato di
Trani (wine), which Geoff chose or Pistachio, which Bruce
chose. |
| |
No meal in Italy is
complete for Geoff without a glass of grappa and the bill,
when it came was very reasonable for what he had enjoyed. |
| |
| |
| |
It was only a short walk
back around the harbour to our hotel.
What a lovely day it had been. |
