Sadly, it was time to go home. The hotel arranged for a car to pick us up from the villa at 9:00am and we were soon at the airport. We had arrived quite early, thinking that we would have plenty of time to relax in the lounge. Unfortunately, the check-in counters weren't open and didn't open until 90 minutes before our flight. We were at the back of a very long queue with only two staff members working. There was also no business class check-in available. By the time we got processed, there was scarcely time to find the lounge and sit down before we had to board the plane. We were nevertheless determined to get a free glass of bubbly, which we succeeded in doing!

About to begin the take-off roll from Arecife airport.

Once again, visibility was excellent as we climbed and we got some excellent views.

Puerto del Carmen.

Another view of Puerto del Carmen. The airport can be seen beyond it and in the distance is Arrecife.

Puerto Calero. which we visited on 3rd December, with Puerto del Carmen beyond.

A good view of the islands to the north of Lanzarote. Isla de Alegranza, Isla de Montana Clara, La Graciosa and Lanzarote on the right.

Turkey with all the trimmings - surprisingly it was really very good!

Lisbon.

Figueira da Foz, Portugal.

Aveiro, Portugal.

Coming in to land at Gatwick, a bit later than scheduled.

The captain announced that our delayed arrival was because this plane had been given priority as we were coming in and we had to do another circuit to accommodate it.

We never did find out why the plane got priority or why fire engines had gone out to meet it.

And that was that. Our sunshine holiday was over. It wasn't our normal sort of holiday, but we really enjoyed it and will definitely consider doing something similar in future.
