With a scheduled departure
around lunchtime, there was no need for us to stay at an
airport hotel the night before, as we normally do for earlier
departures. We were pleased to get a good view of our plane
from the lounge. |

It was a lovely sunny
day and visibility was excellent as we began our flight
south. I don't think we've ever had such good views of the
Isle of Wight before. |

| As we approached Arrecife airport,
we got a clear view of the sprawling, low-rise resort
of Puerto del Carmen. |

Thanks to an on-time
departure and a strong tailwind, we landed half an hour
ahead of schedule. To our surprise, airport formalities
were completed in no time at all. This meant we had a short
wait for our driver, who apologised profusely for not being
there to meet us, despite having arrived on time for the
flight’s scheduled arrival.
The drive from the airport to the Alondra Villas was brief.
From the outside, the reception building gave no hint of
what lay beyond. We were warmly greeted by a man who appeared
to be working alone. He helped unload our luggage into a
buggy and then drove us to our villa, about 150 metres up
the road on the left. However, because of the one-way system,
he had to continue a little further before looping back
to reach it legally. |

We hadn’t stayed
anywhere quite like Alondra before. We decided it was essentially
a five-star hotel, except that instead of rooms it offered
self-contained villas. The reception area was on the corner
closest to Unit 33, while our villa was Unit 23. The restaurant
was situated around the large pool at the top left of the
complex. |

The living area was
spacious and inviting. The sun sets rapidly here, so we
quickly took a few photos of the interior while there was
still some natural light. |

The kitchen looked minimalist,
but had most things we needed. Instead of an oven, however,
there was only a microwave. Geoff complained and they immediately
delivered a small counter-top oven! Beyond the door on the
right was a utility room, in which there was a washing machine,
tumble drier and ironing board. Detergents were also supplied,
as were dishwasher tablets, coffee for the coffee machine
etc. We were impressed. |
|
|
| |
On either side of the
living area, doorways led to the two bedroom suites. One
suite had two single beds... |

...while the other suite
had a very large double bed... |

A brief look outside.
We were very pleased with what we saw and would no doubt
enjoy being here. |
