Monday.

Today marked the start
of the daily ritual of going for breakfast in the restaurant,
a short walk from the villa. |
|
|
| |
|
| |
There was always plenty
of food, beautifully presented and served buffet style.
It was also possible to have egg dishes made to order. |

The cats in the complex
roamed free and routinely approached us to see what we could
give them! |

We decided to explore
our surroundings today. Our villa was set quite high above
the main part of town and we could have asked the villa
staff to order a taxi to take us there, but we decided to
walk. It turned out to be closer than we thought, but it
was a reasonably steep descent all the way. Once we reached
the town centre, we quickly found Mercadona, a very good
supermarket. We then had quite a long walk along the shoreline
for an important visit to a doctor! |

For the first four days
of our stay, Bruce had to make regular visits to the "Euroklinik"
in Puerto del Carmen because, after having a lesion removed
from his ear in the UK two weeks before, the wound had become
infected. Rather than cancelling our trip, he decided that
he would seek the necessary treatment here. It was a good
decision. The four brief visits did the trick and he could
relax and enjoy the rest of his holiday. |

After the clinic visit,
we walked back to Mercadona to buy some food and drink for
the villa and in particular to find something for this evening's
meal. We settled on the paella, which looked especially
good. Despite having two rather heavy shopping bags, we
decided to walk back up to the villa. It wasn't a good decision
and we resolved In future to walk downhill and take a taxi
back up, especially if we had been shopping! |
|
| |
A light lunch at the
Villa Alondra restaurant, where breakfast had been served.
Bruce's ear dressing was quite noticeable but he wasn't
in any pain. The local wine was excellent and we ordered
it a few more times on subsequent days. |

The croquettes were delicious
and made a perfect light lunch. |

Geoff used the small
table-top oven he had requested to heat up our paella at
dinner time. While that was happening, we enjoyed drinks
outside... |

Tuesday.
|
We walked down into
town again today and did some more shopping at the supermarket
after Bruce's second visit to the clinic. This time we took
a taxi back. The taxi rank was conveniently located right
outside the supermarket entrance and was definitely worth
the €3.50 fare. |

In the evening, we had
an excellent meal at Antonio Restaurante, just a few minutes
walk from the villa. It was pure luck that we had thought
to reserve a table yesterday, because the restaurant was
fully booked and people were being turned away.

Ice cream, cream and
caramel. |
|
Limoncello. Not very
Spanish, but it was free! |

We loved this friendly
restaurant and the meal we had there. We would definitely
return. |
