Opatija to Rab

Tuesday 19th September 2023
We slept well, after our long day of travelling yesterday. Over breakfast, we left Opatija en-route to Rab.

Around mid-morning, we steered towards a calm cove, so that people could go for a swim.

A zodiac was launched so that ropes could be laid at the back of the ship to assist the swimmers.

Roughly half the passenges went for a swim. We didn't.

After about an hour, we sailed on towards Rab, arriving at lunchtime.

After lunch on board, we disembarked for a guided walking tour.

The walk started from the ship and within a few paces we were in the heart of the historic part of Rab.

From inside the Benedictine Chapel we could hear some beautiful music, accompanied by equally beautiful voices. The gate was locked, but we could peer inside and catch a glimpse of the nuns who were singing.

At the end of the tour, we went back to the ship to relax a bit before dinner.

Our first independent meal ashore. The Astoria Restaurant had been recommended, so we gave it a try.
We were very lucky to get the last table with a view directly over the central square and harbour behind it.

Bruce had fish soup to start.

Geoff had the prosciutto with olives and walnuts.

Scampi for two.

Things got a bit messy so it was bib time!

Bruce had to have the famous Rab cheese cake for dessert.

We were very full after the large portions. Geoff finished his meal with grappa and coffee back on the ship.
