Fly from Heathrow to Zagreb and board
Queen Eleganza in the port of Opatija

Monday 18th September 2023
We spent the night before the flight at the Hilton Garden Inn near Terminal 2. This was the view from our room.

The same view, the next morning.

From the hotel, it was quite a long walk to Terminal 3 (via Terminal 2 and the entrance to the tube), but at least it was easily walkable for us and we hadn't had to get up really early to get a taxi to the airport. After checking in and having a leisurely breakfast in the lounge, we boarded our flight to Zagreb. This is the best view I could get of our plane, an Airbus A319.

Pushing back at Terminal 3, we could see the top of the Hilton, where we had stayed last night.

Champagne and good food on BA. Because it was an early flight, we expected breakfast or perhaps brunch to be served, so it was a nice surprise to get a full meal. Of course, it was closer to lunch time at our destination and it would be a long drive to the ship once we arrived, so an early lunch suited us perfectly.

Views of some beautful Croatian countryside as we approached Zagreb.

After a smooth landing, we were impressed by the efficiency of Zagreb airport and were soon on our way again.

The coach journey from Zagreb to Opatija was scheduled to take just over two hours and so we grateful for a stop half way.

We were amazed by the number of long tunnels along the route.

It was good to arrive in Opatija and to see our lovely ship.

The port area looked quite attractive, but we wouldn't be staying here for long.

We were very impressed with our cabin, which had everything we needed, including sufficient storage for our clothes.

After settling in, we were invited for drinks and a welcome briefing.

After dinner, we went for a walk into the town of Opatija, because it was going to be our only opportunity.

Our first sight of an ice cream shop. The first of many, along with hundreds of ATMs.

Back to the ship for quiet night as we remained in the port overnight.
