A last look around Athens, boarding
the ship at Piraeus and sailing!

Thursday 25th September 2014

Another beautiful day and a last opportunity to look around the city, but first, more views from the rooftop restaurant over breakfast.

We only had the morning free before our transfer to Piraeus, so we just took a leisurely stroll, partially retracing our steps from yesterday...

...back past the old church...
...and into the market once again.

Shortly after midday, four coaches arrived outside our hotel. We were allocated to coach number one and were soon on our way to the port of Piraeus. We were told that it could take up to an hour, depending on the traffic, but in less than forty minutes we had arrived at the port building. We were checked in very quickly and efficiently. It was a very nice surprise when one of the ship's staff recognised us and said, "Welcome back, I remember that you took a picture of me on a bridge in Livorno in May last year". We were very impressed!
Our cabin number was 577 on the Belvedere deck.
(For the second half of the cruise we were upgraded to cabin 743 on the Bridge deck, but more about that later.)
We liked the feeling of space. We were pleased that we had decided to get a larger cabin for this cruise.
We also liked the extra perks of the higher grade cabin; a free bottle of champagne and petits fours.
There was also a free bottle of wine to welcome us as returning guests.

Our first priority, however, was lunch! A "welcome buffet" was being served in the Terrace Cafe and outside on the deck, so that's where we headed.

At 6 pm promptly, the Aegean Odyssey sailed. For the next twenty three nights, we were going to be sailing too. It was very exciting!

We couldn't wait to try out the complimentary champagne. Of course, we had to share it with our friend Susan, who had joined us for a second cruise. She had come straight to the ship from the airport and we were delighted to see her, so it was a double celebration.

We dined in the Marco Polo restaurant that evening and then had an early night. It was good to be back.
