Despite leaving Stockholm late the previous evening and moving one timezone ahead, we awoke early to find that we had already docked in the port or Marihamn, a mere 81 nautical miles north-east of Stockholm. The town is the capital of Åland, an autonomous territory under Finnish sovereignty where everybody speaks Swedish!

Because we were only scheduled to be there until noon, we once again decided to forego the organised excursion, which included a tour of a 4-masted barque, the Pommern, and a drive around the town. Instead we decided to get some exercise and walk into the town, about half a mile from the ship.

Hmmm.... this bus is very lost!

It didn't take too long to explore the little town and so, after having a cup of coffee, we walked through the other side of the town and strolled back slowly along the harbour front, admiring the scenery and the wild flowers along the way.

At just after noon, we sailed away on the relatively long voyage to our next destination, Riga
