An afternoon in Lillesand
(slightly delayed after backtracking to Kristiansand)

No Programme (2) for 4th July 2011

After a comfortable night and with a relatively long distance to cover from Bergen to Lillesand,
the next morning was spent at sea, with the obligatory lifeboat drill!

Above: A snapshot of our position at approximately 12 noon on 4th July, after which tracking was suspended until after our departure from Lillesand. There is, therefore, no record of our actual route past Kristiansand and our enforced return back to the entrance of its port to pick up a third ("local") Norwegian pilot to guide us into Lillesand.

...hmmm, maybe we needed that third pilot after all!

We chose not to join the guided walk around the small town. Instead, we strolled around and decided that we really liked it.

That evening, we decided to have dinner on deck so that we could enjoy the early evening sunshine and get some views as we departed.

Shortly after we had cleared the last island, the little pilot boat drew up alongside and picked up the extra pilot.
Now why couldn't he have boarded in the same manner, instead of making us backtrack earlier, we wondered.
Calm seas as we sailed overnight towards our next destination, Oslo.
