Programme (2) for 5th July 2011

Geoff was up early in the morning to see the scenery as we sailed up the fjord for our scheduled arrival in Oslo at 9.00 a.m.

Arriving in Oslo. The distinctive twin towers of its town hall are in the forefront.

We docked very close to the Akershus Fortress (above)
Soon after docking, a small boat drew up alongside us and began spraying what looked like
an oil dispersant onto this leak, which seemed to be coming from our ship!
We disembarked promptly at 9.00 am and went straight to our buses for the morning sightseeing tour.
The first stop was at the Oslo ski jump

Another stop, this time at the Edvard Munch museum.

Security was tight since one of its most famous paintings "The Scream"
was stolen from the museum a few years ago (and subsequently recovered).

Then it was back to the ship for lunch.
Elisa had been having some fun with the bathroom towels!

After lunch, we went ashore again, this time on our own.
With the aid of this map, we explored the central area of Oslo.

The Oslo Opera House

Beautiful designs within the opera house. The one below is in the toilets!

The exterior of the opera house is also beautiful, but there are slippery slopes everywhere and lots of signs warning people to take care!

From the roof you can see the ski jump which we had visited that morning.

Time to leave Oslo after a lovely day. Although the skies had seemed menacing all day, we remained dry!

Finally, Norway gave us a beautiful sunset as we said goodbye to the country and looked forward to the next port of Marstrand, Sweden.
