L'Île-Rousse, Corsica
and a walking tour of Calvi

Sunday 25th September 2022

We awoke as the ship was docking in the port of L'Île-Rousse, Corsica. It looked like it was going to be a pleasant day.

Our friend, cruise director Neil, being a bit of a train enthusiast like Geoff, offered us the opportunity to take a local train to Calvi. Quite a few others decided to do the same. The rest went on the coach.

The train was quite full, but we managed to get a window seat.

Not being the official way to get to Calvi, we had to pay our own fares...

...but we were rewarded with wonderful views during the 45 minute journey.

Examples of both types of train serving this route. Ours was like the one above.

Our arrival at Calvi Station.

We then met our guides and joined up with the people who had travelled by coach for the walking tour.

After the tour, there was time to look around the town and, of course, to try some ice cream!

We returned, on the coach, to the ship and arrived in time for lunch.

After lunch we walked into the town of L'Île-Rousse.

Being a Sunday afternoon, the shopping area was quiet...

...but there were lots of people attending a major Pétanque tournament.

As the sun began to set, we wandered out again to explore the cliffs that we could see from the ship.
