Elba

Saturday 24th September 2022

We docked in Portoferraio, Elba early in the morning. The weather forecast wasn't brilliant, but we were hoping to avoid rain. Apart from a short burst in the afternoon, we were lucky.

Our morning excursion took us to "Villa San Martino", the summer residence on the island of the Emperor Napoleon.

Completing our visit to the Villa, we took a long and winding road through the hills to Porto Azzurro. Geoff was very pleased to get off the coach as he was starting to feel a bit sick. The little port town is charming.

Bruce couldn't resist his first gelato of the holiday!

Our next stop was at an old country wine-farm called "La Chiusa", where we sampled the wine, served with local snacks, which were delicious.

After the wine-tasting, we drove back to the ship, just in time for lunch!

In the afternoon, we were free to explore the town of Portoferraio by ourselves. We had visited the town in 2013 but couldn't remember too much about it. As we walked, however, the memories returned.

Later, we returned to the ship after almost getting wet in a sudden downpour.
