The Gibraltar of Greece!

Overnight we had sailed from Nauplia to Monemvasia

The shuttle bus was waiting for us when we arrived in the new town via the ship's tender.
It was only a five minute ride up the hill to the old town.
Our guide pointed to the Agia Sofia church at the top of the rock and said that if anybody wanted to walk up there, she would be happy to accompany them at the end of the walking tour of the old town. We decided not to go up because of the heat. We were amazed when one of our party, a man who walked with great difficulty and two walking sticks said he wanted to go. Later, he did just that, accompanied by the guide and made it back, full of enthusiasm!

We encountered many apparently ownerless dogs and cats everywhere. Some of them looked cared for; others, sadly, didn't.

We decided to walk back down the hill instead of waiting for the next shuttle bus.
After all, it had only taken five minutes to get there on the bus, so how long could it
take to walk back? Our estimated time of around thirty minutes proved to be optimistic;
it took over an hour!

We were very hot by the time we got back to the new town.
so we decided to have another little sit at a convenient cafe
before getting on the next tender.
