Flying from London
to Ljubljana

Tuesday 23rd May 2023

We flew from Heathrow on this plane. It was scheduled to depart at 13:05, but only departed 2 hours later. For most of that time we were inside the plane. First we were told that there would be a 30 minute delay because of air traffic controller strikes in France. Then there was a shortage of drivers to push the plane back and by the time they found somebody 45 minutes later, we had lost our departure slot and had to wait again. When the departure slot became available, we had then lost the push-back vehicle driver. The captain was very nice and his frustration matched ours. He announced that he was opening the cockpit door in case anybody wanted to come and have a look inside. There were 62 members of the Team GB rowing team on board and many of them accepted his offer.

Two hours behind schedule we were finally able to depart.

The business class was small and there was little legroom, but we managed to enjoy the flight, thanks to the lovely staff, good service and a rather late, but tasty lunch!

We also got some lovely views as we got closer to our destination.

Ljubljana Jože Pucnik Airport, at last!

We were met by a pleasant, smartly dressed man who drove us into the centre of the old town. Because the area around the hotel is for pedestrians only, he had arranged for this little electric vehicle to take us the last 200 metres.

Our hotel was very nice, although the decor was rather strange.

The obligatory view from the hotel window.

It was almost 8pm, but after a day of airports and delays, we wanted a stroll to get a feel for the city.

We saw a restaurant which was on our recommended list. We booked a table for tomorrow night.
Tonight, however, we were too full after our late lunch so we just had a quick pizza here.
