Unforgettable Douro - a cruise on the Scenic Azure in northern Portugal
13th - 23rd November 2023

After a very busy year of travelling, this was the last trip we took in 2023. It was a rather special trip because we were celebrating Geoff's 70th birthday. He had wanted to sail along the Douro River for a long time, so it wasn't a difficult choice to make. Before going, we were slightly concerned that the weather might not be good, but luck was on our side and we had mild weather throughout. At times, it was even rather warm.
 
 
We were on the ship for 10 nights, starting and finishing in Porto. The pace of travel was leisurely, with plenty of time to explore the places where we stopped. We were very impressed with the Scenic Azure and couldn't fault any aspect of the trip. The food was excellent and we were treated exceptionally well by the lovely people on board. All drinks were free too! We had travelled with Scenic previously on a cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam (in 2014) (link opens in a new window), so we had some idea of what to expect, but in the intervening 9 years they have got even better. We will definitely consider travelling with them again in the future.
