Day 2 - Course set for South Georgia

Tuesday 28th March 2023
After all of the excitement of the past few days, I was quite happy to relax and be told what to do and when to do it! I passively enjoyed everything on offer today.

I discovered that the cost of using the internet was high... very high. We were each given a voucher for 100 megabytes of free data, but thereafter we would have to pay. The cost of a voucher for 500mb of data was €150, but for a nominal fee we could have access to an onboard email account which would provide unlimited access for text-only emails, so that's what I was going to have to use. By trial and error I discovered that I could also attach a small image (max 500kb) to my emails which helped. It wasn't perfect, the emails sometimes look 24 hours to arrive or to be received, but at least it was a way to keep in contact. (In fact I did eventually relent and bought a couple of expensive voucher, which I used to post a few pictures on Facebook).

I took this picture to show the thin, lightweight and effective non-slip matting used on surfaces throughout the ship. Something I hadn't seen before on any of the ships we had travelled on, but it certainly worked very well.

What would an evening in a ship's diningroom be without somebody having a birthday and being sung to by the crew? After listening to this lot though, I can safely say that none of them were recruited for their singing talents!
