A casual conversation with Edith and Gregor
during their visit to us in London in April sparked the
idea of meeting up again in Venice — a city they
visit at least once a year and one we hadn’t returned
to in far too long. It didn’t take much persuasion,
and we began planning almost immediately.
Being back in this extraordinary city was a joy. With
no real itinerary, we spent our days wandering aimlessly,
soaking up the atmosphere and discovering the quieter
canals, beautiful buildings, and art-filled churches away
from the main tourist routes. Edith and Gregor recommended
a hotel in a calmer, more residential area of the city,
which we loved, and they introduced us to their favourite
restaurants — all of them excellent. We were also
incredibly lucky with the weather, enjoying unexpectedly
sunny and mild days for the time of year.
