Antarctica: Port Lockroy,
Neumayer Ch. & Base Brown

Tuesday 27th November 2018

This is as close as I got to Port Lockroy. I was suffering from a sore throat and a cough (like many others on the ship) and I wanted to conserve my energy for the possible landing at "Base Brown" this afternoon. As we were anchored very close to the island, I got a good feel for the place nevertheless, helped by seeing Derek's photos afterwards.

I waved goodbye to Derek as he set off, after which I drank coffee, ate biscuits and admired the scenery.

I'm sorry that I missed the ice landing. It looked like a lot of fun!

The ship's log says it all. The Neumayer Channel is utterly exquisite. I was feeling better already!

I was feeling a bit better this afternoon so I went ashore. It was a good decision.

The climb up looked a bit daunting and the snow was deep in places, but it was worth the effort.

At the top, we sat in the snow and admired the views.

A rare photo of Sue; expedition team member, hard-working photographer and zodiac driver.

Peninsula Party! - Luckily, nobody took any embarrassing photos of me, haha!

We were definitely amongst those who "simply couldn't bear to tear themselves away". Wow!

Only the second ship we had seen since we started the expedition.

Another amazing day. Tomorrow would be our last opportunity to go ashore.
It was all coming to an end far too quickly!
