On Tuesday 23rd March, we took off from Sydney after some sad goodbyes and promises to return. We had an excellent flight on a Quantas Boeing 767 to Christchurch (helped by Champagne and a 3-course lunch at 9:45 in the morning!).
We arrived in Christchurch - another hour forward and now we were fully 12 hours ahead of UK time. We picked up our hire car - a Holden Vectra. Christchurch was warm and sunny. Our B&B, Summers House, was excellent.
We then began to explore Christchurch. It is a very small city, but attractive and friendly.

On Wednesday, we went to the Banks peninsular and drove to Akaroa across one of the most beautiful landscapes we have seen.
It's a bit like the English Lake Distict but with blue lakes, bright sun and no traffic.
