March 2022: South Africa

Although my last trip to South Africa was in October 2021, I decided to pay another visit to see my Mom and the rest of the family, early in the year. This is because Geoff and I have quite a few (previously delayed) holidays booked in 2022 and I wasn't sure that there would be another opportunity later in the year. It was a good decision. I loved seeing how well Mom was looking and how well she was settling into her new home.

Lunch at Marc and Clare's house. Kylie made the banner for me and Mom got to see Snowy again!

Mom's garden was looking very good

I took the opportunity for a daily walk around the perimeter of the estate, which was lovely.

Dinner at Des and Jenny's home and an opportunity for a rare photo of Mom with her four children!

It was Mom's birthday during my stay - one of the reasons why I like to visit in March.

It was lovely to be able to catch up with Marina and Dirk.

Lunch at the garden centre with Mom and Gail.

A dinner out with Mom, Gail, Clare, Kylie, Cameron and Marc.

I managed to get Mom out and walking almost every day, which made me very happy.
She has continued to go out since I left, which makes me even more happy!

Time to leave and a welcome upgrade to business class!

Final approach to Heathrow on a very clear morning.

Family heirlooms - silver spoons, given to me by Carol and Ed. They will be put to good use!

Every trip I make still feels like a privilege. The pandemic is still not over, so nothing can be taken for granted, but we continue to take each day at a time and feel grateful for what we have.
