Vittoriosa &
departure from Valletta

Thursday 25th May 2017

Well, we would certainly be leaving Malta tonight, but not, as the itinerary stated, from its airport! We were lucky enough to be returning to the Island Sky for the second leg of our adventure. We joined the group for the morning tour and lunch ashore, before waving them all goodbye and returning to the ship.

As we set out from the port on the coach, we passed this van which had taken a corner too tightly and almost tipped its cargo of vodka onto the road!

Birgu, also known by its title Città Vittoriosa, is opposite Valletta.

Looking back towards Valletta. Senglea, also known as Città Invicta, is on the left.

Birgu had four city gates, three of which still survive. This is the Couvre Porte Gate – the first of the three main gates.

We visited the Inquisitor's Palace

I would definitely have been tried and convicted!

Our lunch venue overlooked this steam engine.

After lunch, we said goodbye to everyone and caught a ferry back to Valletta.

Taken shortly before our departure from Valletta. (Thanks to Neil for this one)

Sailing away from Valletta. Like last time, we were treated to bubbly on the deck as we left. Unlike last time, however, we left in the late afternoon instead of after dark, because we had quite a long distance to sail to our next port of call.

Fort St. Angelo, Birgu

Next stop - Crotone, Italy
