Shimonoseki for Hagi: Toko-ji Temple, Kikuya Residence and Nosaka Pottery

Saturday 7th May 2016

Today, we were back in Japan, where we arrived very early in the morning at the port of Shimonoseki. Our destination today was Hagi, about a ninety minute drive from the port.

Our first stop in Hagi was at the serenely beautiful Toko-ji Temple.

Lunch was at a local ryokan

After lunch, a visit to the Kikuya Residence

Our last stop was at the Nosaka Pottery, where we watched the master potter, Nosaka Kazusa in action.

Returning to Shimonoseki, we had some free time. The ship was due to stay in the port overnight.

Fugu (blowish) is the local delicacy, hence the funny headgear.

We got the opportunity to try on kimonos. It was hugely entertaining (for us and others!)

A specially discounted ride on the ferris wheel.

After dinner we went for a walk to see what Saturday night in Shimonoseki was like. It was peaceful.

The pages from this holiday are not yet complete. Hopefully this sample will give some idea of our experiences.
