Norway: Rosendal, Bondhusvatnet Lake, Hattebergfossen and a lovely rainbow

Thursday 23th July 2015

After leaving Shetland at lunchtime on Wednesday, we sailed in an almost straight line East, across the North Sea towards the coast of Norway. This was one part of the voyage which we thought might be rough, but luck was on our side and the crossing was calm. We awoke on Thursday morning to find ourselves sailing in our first Norwegian fjord (Hardanger Fjord), towards the small town of Rosendal.

This is the place where the coaches dropped us off and we commenced our walk towards Lake Bondhus and the view of Bondhusbreen glacier.

When we got back to the coaches, we decided to walk to the nearby village instead of waiting for the coach to take us there.

Driving back to the ship, we were allowed a short photo stop at the Furebergfossen. The road bridge which separated the base of the falls from the fjord into which it was crashing, seemed a little inadequate for its purpose!

Our morning tour ended as we came back into Rosendal.

We headed back to the ship on zodiacs for our lunch.

We decided to do our afternoon walk independently, mainly so that we could walk fast and get a bit of exercise.

After climbing up to the top of the town, we spotted these waterfalls in the distance and decided to see if we could walk to them.

The walk to the waterfall was further than we thought, but it was a beautiful walk.

It was soon time to begin our return walk to the town centre and back to the ship.

After returning to the ship, we were treated to this wonderful rainbow!

At 5:30pm we sailed away from Rosendal. Four hours later we were still sailing through the fjords en-route to Bergen.

At around 10.00pm we sailed through a narrow shipping lane and under a road bridge (at the point of the embedded image), which would have been impossible for a large ship to do.

By now, it was almost midnight and we were looking forward to our day in Bergen tomorrow.
