The voyage begins in Leith
and we sail around the Bass Rock

Monday 20th July 2015 (afternoon)

We shared a taxi with Keith and Isabelle (pictured below) for the short ride from our B&B to Edinburgh station. We arrived close to the required meeting time (3.30pm), at the designated meeting point outside WH Smith. Our names were ticked off the list, our baggage was wheeled off and we were left to mill about and observe our fellow passengers, while we waited for the signal to board the coaches which would take us to the ship.

Our first sight (for this holiday anyway) of our beautiful ship, the Island Sky.

This is one of several photos taken by members of the expedition team and given to us at the end of the holiday. We haven't credited them all individually, but for those who are interested, the image names all contain the letter "P".

We were greeted at the dock by a lady playing the bagpipes, as we boarded the ship.
We were led directly into the lounge for a late afternoon tea buffet, including champagne - very civilised!

Our room looked familiar and welcoming. It brought back memories of our last voyage on the ship in 2011.

At 6.00pm, we got a last look at the Edinburgh skyline as we set sail.

Sailing around the Bass Rock was a very special experience and a lovely start to our voyage. We both felt very privileged.
Next stop, Kirkwall, Orkney.
