Anne and John's give us their
"wee tour" of Edinburgh

Saturday 18th July 2015 (afternoon)

Less than thirty minutes after our arrival at the B&B, Anne and John were outside in their car and ready to take us on what they described as a "wee tour". It was lovely to see them again after meeting them on our "Jewels of Europe" river cruise a year ago. Their "wee tour" turned out to be more of a grand tour with excellent guides. We loved every minute of it!

First, there was a brief stop at the Royal Botanic Garden, to whet our appetite for a possible return tomorrow.

This was followed by a walk along the Water of Leith. John dropped us off at one point, then drove to a different point, which allowed us to do a walk with Anne and not have to retrace our steps... well planned!

St Bernard's Well
It was hard to believe that we were in the middle of the city.

The tour continued by car with a brief stop at the the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art.
"Everything is Going to be Alright" - well yes, we liked the sound of that.

Our next stop was close to the Scottish parliament building.

Holyrood Palace

Back in the car, we went for a scenic drive around Holyrood Park. The park is dominated by a group of hills, Arthur's Seat being the main peak. We got out of the car a couple of times to admire the views and take photos.

Salisbury Crags

We stopped again later at Regent Road Park to see "The Stones of Scotland".

Another short drive before we parked and walked up Calton Hil, from where there were some excellent views of the Edinburgh skyline.

After a memorable tour, and with perfect timing, we enjoyed an excellent meal at this restaurant with our hosts.
We had seen several places today that we wanted to revisit tomorrow at a more leisurely pace.
Thank you so much Anne and John for showing us your beautiful city.
