2005: Japan

In October/November 2005 we went to Japan, somewhere we had hoped to visit for many years. We thought it might be an exotic destination, but we had no idea how amazing it would turn out to be. We elected to travel with an organised group rather than try to go it alone. Audley Travel's "Japan Old and New" tour seemed ideal, covering all we wanted to see and having only 16 in the group.
We left home on Wednesday, 19th October, getting to Heathrow at 15:45. The JAL desk was very efficient and we were soon through to Departures, with the flight due at 18:45. We got to our seats to find that the plane - a Boeing 747-400 - was only a quarter full.
The flight attendants advised us to take a row each - which we were very happy to do, and we were all able to sleep for much of the 12-hour flight. The food was good too.
