1998: Russia: Cities of the Tatars and Tsars

12th - 29th October 1998

A voyage along the Volga from Moscow to Astrakhan, then from Volgograd through the Volga-Don Canal to Rostov aboard the MS Novikov-Priboy. Return to Moscow by overnight train.

We enjoyed our holiday to Russia in 1997 so much that we lept at the chance to go again the following year with the same company, Noble Caledonia. Once again, our holiday started in Moscow and returned to the beautiful towns on the Golden Ring - Uglich, Kostroma and Yaroslavl - but then we headed South, sailing along the length of the Volga river to Astrakhan on the Caspian Sea before turning back upstream to join the Volga-Don Canal to Rostov-on-Don on the Sea of Azov. From there we returned to Moscow by train. This epic tour took 18 days.
